If you have an outdoorsy person on your list—someone who’d rather spend a weekend in a tent than a hotel—this guide is for you. I’ve rounded up the best 2025 gifts for campers, hikers, and anyone who loves fresh air and wide-open spaces. These are things I’ve used myself or would be thrilled to unwrap.

These are the pieces that make my trips amazing and my days full of the outside.

01. Mountain Gazette:

Holding the latest issue of Mountain Gazette outdoors with fall leaves and forest background

My latest issue of Mountain Gazette — read outside surrounded by fall color.

Large-format, twice-yearly, and packed with unforgettable stories, photography, and illustration from the outdoors. I’m a subscriber and count down to both issues. Thoughtful curation, authentic voices, and beautiful long-form work.

02. Snow Peak’s Ti-Double 450 Mug:

The lightest mug that will ever hold your morning coffee. I have two—one silver and one blue. As I write this, I am sipping from the silver. It’s a mug built to last, born in Japan, and a staple for decades.

For home or for reading by the campfire, you can’t go wrong with this blanket. I have Deepwater, and I just discovered there’s a fleece version—so that’s on order.

04. Mammut Crag IN Jacket:

My Mammut Crag IN Jacket hanging in the van in the fall.

My go-to jacket. Light, easy, and warm on chilly days. I’m a Mammut fan, and this one gets the most use. If you ski, it’s an excellent mid-layer under a shell.

05. The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative:

Reading The Nature Fix outdoors at a campsite in the Chattahoochee National Forest

Reading outside at camp in the Chattahoochee National Forest — a good reminder of what this book is all about.

I’m midway through—smart science, real stories, and a nudge to get outside more. The outdoorsy reader on your list will enjoy this read.

My mom always told me to buy gifts you’d want yourself. Not sure that still holds as an adult, but these picks are ones I’d be happy to give—or get. Each makes a thoughtful gift for the outdoorsy person in your life. Maybe skip number five if they’re not a reader, but you get the idea. Reach out with questions.

Michele Underwood writes Overland Girl, where she shares gear she uses on real trips—from the Northwoods of Wisconsin to the Ozarks. She values quality and craftsmanship in everything she buys—from outdoor gear to everyday clothes and furniture. Her choices may seem expensive to some, but she believes in buying less and buying better. Longevity matters, both in terms of function and style. Her couch is five years old and still sold at Design Within Reach—that's the kind of timelessness she looks for. Some of the links in this review are affiliate links, which means she may earn a small commission if you buy through them. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, and it helps support her work. She only recommends gear she’d bring herself.
